| In 1956 Yoshio Okada invented the
world's first SNAP-OFF BLADE CUTTER. The inspiration for this incredible idea
came from breaking off segments of chocolate bars and analyzing the sharp edges
of broken glass. This unique invention has since become a worldwide best seller
and is commonly referred to as an OLFA CUTTER. The length, width and angle of
the blade, established by Y. Okada, have become the worldwide standard for the
snap-off blade. |
| Originator, Yoshio Okada”Ēs invention
of the OLFA Rotary Cutter in 1979 totally changed quilting techniques. Though
originally designed for simply cutting fabrics, it played an important leading
role in revolutionizing the world of quilt making with an extraordinary
convenience that nobody imagined. |

The superior quality of OLFA blades
is the result of a multi-step production process. Only the finest quality tool
steel is selected for use. For all OLFA blades, we adjust hardness, sharpening
angles, tapered dimensions, the coarseness of whetstone, the speed of grinding,
etc. for every type, and ensure the blade has the best balance of high sharpness
and longest blade life according to a usage. |

The body
colour of OLFA products was
determined in 1967 by our founder Yoshio Okada. He decided on a soft yellow
colour (similar to egg yolk) and blended it into a soft pastel colour. In those
days, tools were dark colours, such as black or silver. Realizing a knife should
be easily recognized in a toolbox and be associated with safe and familiar
images. Yoshio Okada set a new standard in tool development. OLFA, the
originator of the snap-off blade and innovator of safety yellow colour for hand
tools. |

The L-1 (OLFA's best selling cutter)
was designed by Y. Okada, who determined the shape of the cutter after grabbing
and holding hundreds upon hundreds stones along a river. Not by computer or
some sort of scientific analysis, but just by picking up and founding stones
along a river, the shape of this cutter was created. The L-1 and all OLFA
cutters offer, therefore, the best comfort, hand-it control and ultimate cutting
performance. |
